Our Mission

Our mission is to provide families throughout Montgomery County, PA the books they need to develop a love for learning and bridge the literacy gap.

Our Why

Books from the Heart strives to place books in the hands of families and children who do not have access to them outside of school. Many of the families who have benefited from our program have never owned a  new book before. We believe that every child should have books to call their own. Children who are read to at a young age develop better literacy, vocabulary, and language skills. All of our books are donated and distributed to families impacted by income and other disadvantages.

From the National Literacy Institute

  • Approximately 40% of all students across the nation cannot read at a basic level.

  • Almost 70% of low-income fourth grade students cannot read at a basic level.

  • 60% of low-income families can’t afford to have books in their homes.

  • Struggling readers suffer both emotionally and socially leading their families to feel the same.

Simply providing a child an opportunity to choose a book to call their own helps give them the tools to read and break the cycle of poverty. Kids who read more, achieve more.
